The air was freezing this morning again across the country. However, the temperatures rose up to 5 degrees Celsius during the daytime in Seoul which is the typical winter level. With only clouds passing in the skies this weekend, milder weather than usual will continue. Meanwhile, the east coast has been under a dry weather advisory for weeks. As well as the dry conditions, strong wind is also blowing. It is important to be extra cautious due to the increased risk of wildfires. Tomorrow morning, Seoul will start off at minus 4 degrees, Gwangju at minus 3 degrees. Daily highs will move up to around 10 degrees in most areas with Daegu, Busan, and Jeju at 10 degrees. Frigid air continues in central regions, Gangwon-do Province is seeing lows below minus 10 to even minus 15 degrees Celsius. Icy roads out there for central regions and Jeollabuk-do Province. Please drive and walk with care. However, afternoon highs will rise rapidly to way above norms. Temperatures will go up further over the weekend. Next Monday marks Daehan, the last winter seasonal term so we should be having the coldest time of the year but temperatures have been rather generous and should stay above norms through next week and likely into the Seollal holiday. Checking on today's highs now, Seoul gets up to 5 degrees, Daegu at 8 degrees under sunny skies. Air quality will be normal in most parts except in Sejong during the morning. Cold wave advisories are still in place in Gangwon-do Province. The temperatures in Daegwallyeong in Gangwon-do Province plummeted to minus 13 degrees Celsius today. This freezing cold will continue in these areas tomorrow. Elsewhere, the temperatures will rise from the afternoon and there will be no worries about the severe cold until the end of this week. Central parts of Korea could see a mix of rain and snow today, starting earlier in the day but should subside by the late afternoon. Gangwon-do could see up to 5 centimeters, the capital area could also see flurries around lunchtime to mid-afternoon, so stay safe on the road. The cold snap should ease today with top temperatures going up much higher this afternoon, topping out at 5 degrees Celsius but it will be rather cloudy all day. The rest of the country will also notice afternoon highs going 2 to 7 degrees higher, Daejeon and Gwangju top out at 7 degrees Celsius, Daegu and Busan getting up to 8 degrees with decent air quality nationwide. The capital area woke up to icy road conditions, as yesterday's snow and freezing rain made their way across the capital. There will be more snow in the east of Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do through this morning with up to 5 centimeters of snow in the forecast with a heavy snow advisory issued. The cold snap takes a short break today with much more comfortable temperatures but they will go back below norms tomorrow. Meanwhile, today's short-lived warmth brings dusty air to the country. Most regions will see bad dust levels through late this afternoon. Afternoon highs will be 2 to 4 degrees Celsius higher than yesterday. Topping out at 6 degrees in the capital, Daegu and Gyeongju at 11 degrees. Mostly cloudy skies are expected for much of Korea.
