President Lee pushes revitalizing S. Korea's manufacturing industry

President Lee Jae Myung is seeking a pan-governmental effort to breathe new life into the manufacturing arena which he says is vital to ensuring sustainable economic growth.

"South Korea is already a global manufacturing powerhouse across many sectors.

However, we now face significant challenges, from rising competition and advances in artificial intelligence to the reshaping of the global trade order. We can no longer rely on the strategies of the past."

Speaking to his top aides at a weekly meeting earlier on this Thursday the president urged a complete overhaul of industrial policy anchored in "innovation across finance, taxation, and regulation."
