President Lee Jae Myung is set to become the first South Korean leader to preside over a United Nations Security Council meeting as South Korea assumes the presidency of the 15-member body this month.
Seoul's Foreign Ministry says the president will chair an open debate on Wednesday September 24th in New York on the implications of AI on peace and stability.
Ahead of this event on September 9th Seoul will convene a separate debate on UN peace operations as this month the council also deliberates on the conflicts in the Middle East.
Seoul plans to further highlight women peace and security as well as the link between climate and conflict.
