The ruling Democratic Party will expel four-term lawmaker Lee Choon-suak over allegations of illegal stock trading.
Lee withdrew from the party earlier on Tuesday one day after he was caught on camera engaging in stock transactions on his mobile phone using an aide's account.
His action drew strong condemnation amid the government's push for stock market transparency.
The party for its part on this Wednesday pointed out that members who leave the party to avoid disciplinary action can still face expulsion.
The DP also tapped six-term lawmaker and former Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae to lead the judiciary committee a post that Lee previously held.
Also according to the top office the president has called for a swift and thorough investigation into the matter.
