President Lee Jae Myung has pledged efforts to support the journey to healing from the atomic bombings on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 80 years ago on this month.
Taking to Facebook on this Tuesday he also conveyed his deepest condolences to the victims and their families.
Tens of thousands of Koreans were among those killed or left with lasting health consequences.
He also made reference to South Korea's Special Act on the Support for Korean Atomic Bomb Victims enacted in 2017 calling it a "practical foundation for assistance" but acknowledged that more needs to be done.
