S. Korea-U.S. summit will be held within August: FM Cho Hyun

The first summit between presidents Lee Jae Myung and Donald Trump will take place within this month according to Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on Sunday.

Speaking upon his return from Washington, D.C., Cho said that the final coordination is being made to arrange a summit within August but did not disclose the date.

In talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the two sides began preparing for a leaders' meeting in D.C., after Trump declared a meeting within two weeks.

Cho added he and Rubio had reaffirmed the combined defense posture of South Korean and U.S. forces, and commitment to extended deterrence.

On the matter of "alliance modernization", Cho emphasized Seoul's efforts to strengthen defense amid global uncertainty, while addressing concerns over ties with China.
