Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, starting Monday midnight local time, following five days of border clashes that killed nearly 40 people and displaced hundreds of thousands.

This follows negotiations in the Malaysia headed by Malayian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

At a joint press conference with acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Anwar outlined the step-by-step de-escalation process of the conflict.

He also stated that a broader border committee session is scheduled for August 4 in Cambodia to address long-standing territorial issues.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had phoned the leaders of both countries and celebrated the outcome, calling himself the "President of peace."
