In Bangladesh, at least 20 people, mostly students, have been killed after an Air Force training jet crashed into a school in the capital, Dhaka.

At around 1 PM local time on Monday, an F-7 BGI fighter jet suffered a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff from Kurmitola Air Force Base and crashed into a building at the Milestone School and College campus.

Students were attending afternoon classes at the time.

Authorities confirmed the pilot and at least 19 people on the ground were killed.

A major fire broke out due to the crash and more than 170 people, mainly children, were transported to hospitals with serious burns and injuries.
