A public hearing opened at the National Assembly today to gather expert opinions on prosecution reform bills championed by the ruling Democratic Party.
The hearing centers on four proposals that aim to limit prosecutors' roles to indictments and trials and to establish new agencies to take over and coordinate investigations.
The DP is also ramping up internal efforts with a task force spotlighting prosecutorial overreach and what it calls "politically motivated" indictments tied to key ruling party figures.
It aims to complete the legislative process by the Chuseok holiday in early October.
