In Switzerland, a glacier collapse on Wednesday buried the Alpine village of Blatten under a massive landslide.
The catastrophe occurred at around 3:30 PM local time, as a significant portion of the Birch Glacier broke off, triggering the landslide.
The avalanche of ice, mud, and rock covered about 90 percent of the village, destroying homes and infrastructure.
Around 300 residents and their livestock had been evacuated a few days before the event, after geologists warned of the glacier's instability.
Despite the evacuation, one person remains missing, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
