S. Korean film director Heo Ga-young wins La Cinef Award at Cannes 2025

A Korean filmmaker has won the top prize in the La Cinef competition of the festival that acknowledges the work of promising film students.

Heo Ga-young is the first Korean to win in this prestigious section of the Cannes event.

Her short film "First Summer" was celebrated with the top honor and 15-thousand euros in prize money.

The film centers around a 74-year-old woman who chooses to attend her late boyfriend's memorial service over her granddaughter's wedding.
