Seoul says copper import restrictions will disrupt S. Korean investment in U.S.

The government here is requesting that the Trump administration re-consider its restrictions on copper imports from South Korea.

The request follows the launch of an investigation by the U.S. Commerce Department to assess the national security implications of U.S. imports of copper and copper derivative products.

In response the Trade Ministry here has pointed out that South Korean copper products have contributed favorably to the American economy.

The ministry also stressed that U.S. tariffs on copper imports would simply serve to raise prices and disrupt the current stability of the supply chain.
