The first criminal trial for former President Yoon Suk yeol, who's facing insurrection charges just began at 10 AM, at the Seoul Central District Court.

Yoon arrived at the court this morning, as he is required to be at the trial in person.

Two key witnesses, including Cho Sung-hyun from the army's capital defense command are expected to testify at the hearing that will be held behind closed doors.

Cho earlier testified at the Constitutional Court in February, that he was ordered to send troops to drag lawmakers out of parliament on the night of the martial law order.

Monday's trial comes ten days after the 64-year-old former leader was removed from office.

If convicted, he could face life imprisonment or even the death penalty.
