As U.S. tariffs rattle global financial markets, the South Korean currency lost substantial ground against the U.S. dollar, weakening to one-thousand-4-hundred-73 won at one point during trade on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the won's weakest level against the greenback since the global financial crisis.
Accordingly, at an emergency meeting of the country's top economic officials convened by Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok , authorities acknowledged the vulnerability of the local financial market to external risk factors and agreed to remain vigilant in anticipation of further fluctuations.
