According to the KFA on Tuesday, Chung was selected to replace former president Kozo Tajima, following his resignation, in a meeting of the EAFF Executive Committee in Tokyo.

Chung will serve as interim president until receiving formal approval at the East Asian football body's General Assembly in July and will officially hold the position until March, next year.

The KFA explained that it is EAFF policy for the host country of the biennial East Asian Football Tournament to assume the presidency.

The association pledged full preparations for this year's tournament, set to be held in Korea this July.
