South Korea's UN ambassador has called on North Korea to stop sacrificing its people to maintain its regime in exchange for Russian support, stressing that the Ukraine war has caused "serious" suffering.
Speaking at the UN Security Council meeting on the maintenance of the peace and security of Ukraine on Wednesday, Ambassador Hwang Joon-kook called for Moscow and Pyongyang to end their military cooperation.
The envoy said that the war has not only led to suffering for the Ukrainian people, Russian soldiers, and their families, but "also those of North Korea."
He also said that interviews with captured North Korean troops revealed that the North Korean leadership deceived them to believe they were sent to Russia for training.
