Marriages rose remarkably while divorces dropped last year.
According to Statistics Korea there were 2-hundred-22-thousand marriages in 2024 up 15 percent on year the highest since related data collection began in 1970.
Officials note the rise was led by newlyweds in their early to mid-30s and link the phenomenon to postponed wedding plans owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Divorces meanwhile declined by one percent on year marking the fifth annual fall in a row since 2020.
