Jeonbuk State defeats Seoul, will bid for 2036 Summer Olympics

South Korea's southwestern province, Jeonbuk State, is now in the race to host the 2036 Summer Olympics.

In a vote to select a candidate city on Friday, held during the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee's general assembly, the province won 49 out of 61 votes.

It beat out the only other candidate, Seoul, which garnered just eleven votes, with one invalid vote.

Jeonbuk will now seek to host the Summer Olympics, 48 years after the 1988 Seoul Olympics, potentially competing with more than ten cities worldwide.
