Local movies had a strong showing in January.
According to the Korean Film Council on Thursday, the number of moviegoers opting to watch Korean films last month increased by 46-point-8 percent from a year ago, with about 6-point-8 million tickets sold.
"Harbin" topped the box office with more than 2-million people watching the movie in January.
The box office success was largely attributed to a series of blockbusters released during the Lunar New Year holidays, including "Hitman 2" and "Dark Nuns," also gaining popularity.
