Former U.S. National Security Council official, Allison Hooker, who was involved in U.S.-North Korea summits during Trump's first term, has been nominated as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
This is the third-highest position in the U.S. State Department and oversees the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau, which handles affairs related to Korea.
Trump notified Congress of his decision on Tuesday.
Hooker served as the former senior director for Asian affairs at the National Security Council and took part in preparations for Trump's summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore in 2018, Hanoi in 2019, and the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom in 2019.
